How to Help - Get active & involved

The protest campaign

Groups large and small along the route continue to organise a wide range of protest activities ranging from mass demonstrations through to sustained letter-writing campaigns. If you are not sure which is your closest group, have a look on the HS2 Action Alliance website for affiliated groups.

Many of the national events have been organised by the STOP HS2 group, and they continue to be the most active in this aspect of the protest activity; a list of events can be seen on their website.

There is a lot at stake in this campaign and your voice counts. Don't leave it to others to do it for you...get in touch with SNAG and get active!

Sign the petition

STOPHS2 has organised an online petition that anyone can sign. At the last election, David Cameron promised to recognise large important issues and bring them to Parliament for debate; this is how you let him know it's important. Please do it now!

Get writing!

It's not just national politicians who need to feel the strength of your protest, but also your local council representatives and other organisations who have an interest. For the politicians, e-mails are ok, but we are told that bulging mail sacks on this subject are much more effective...and keep doing it! Whatever you do, it's best to use your own words and make it punchy. Here are a few suggestions for contacts:

Politicians

  • To find your local MP click here:
  • Your local county & district councils should be fully representing your interests. Have a look at our "HS2 Myths" section LINK and then tell them what you think they should be doing to help you. The S. Northants cabinet have a responsibility for HS2 policy and can be contacted here

Other organisations

There are plenty to choose from but here are several that we know are interested in the issue:

  • Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE). Click here to have look at their website and then get in touch.
  • The National Trust have expressed concerns but not yet committed to a position (Nov. 2010 "We will need some time to reflect on the case put forward before a fuller judgement can be made"). Click here to give them your opinion and help them decide!
  • The Taxpayers Alliance is very critical of HS2 and its views are heard by politicians. Click here to add your voice to what they are saying.

Get involved

There are several ways of doing this:

  • Register interest in SNAG and receive news-letters and notifications of activities.
  • Join your local community group and help to keep local residents informed and involved
  • Join SNAG and help the campaign against HS2 for the S. Northants district. If you have skills in the following key areas and want to help, either locally or nationally, then let us know and we will put you in touch with the right group.

    - Railway engineering
    - PR and lobbying
    - Transport planning
    - Transport environmental issues
    - Legal matters
