What you wont hear from Patrick McLoughlin or David Cameron about HS2.

The predictable announcement this afternoon by David Cameron and Patrick McLoughlin of the proposed route for HS2 between the West Midlands and Leeds/Manchester will contain the usual spin about the benefits of high speed rail.

But you wonít hear about the thousands more households and businesses across the north impacted by the new line, which  will be facing decades of uncertainty, upheaval and blight.

The reality that the advantages of high speed rail as an engine for economic growth and job creation are minimal-after all Spain has expanded its high speed rail network more than any other European country in recent decades yet it  has the highest unemployment in the EU.

  • how HS2 wonít do anything to reduce flights or cut our carbon emissions either.

HS2AA will be fighting these proposals - in the media, in Parliament and in the courts. But we have only ever been able to do it with people like you, pitching in.

Going forward there will be more to do but for now letís focus on getting a great response to the compensation consultation. Please go to www.hs2aa.org on how to respond and make sure your family and friends respond too.

More soon.
