Vanity of HS2 project has nothing to do with job creation
Responding to the inclusion of two HS2 bills in the Queen's Speech, UKIP Leader Nigel Farage leader of UKIP said: "Yet again Mr Cameron just doesn't get it.
"His vanity transport scheme has nothing to do with sorting out the north/south divide or providing real jobs to recession hit northern towns and cities.”
"In the three years since the election, Cameron has blown over a quarter of a billion pounds on HS2 Ltd, its London consultants and PR operation. In all that time, just five jobs have been created outside London. HS2 is the most expensive job creation scheme in history.
"Following last week's local elections UKIP councillors now represent 50,000 HS2 blighted voters and their families, most of them in Buckinghamshire.
"The Government needs to get the message that people have had enough of being treated with contempt by Conservative Ministers on this issue. Instead of throwing good money after bad, Cameron should be scrapping this white elephant that is destroying so very many lives and businesses."
Meanwhile, Ayelsbury UKIP Cllr Chris Adams said: In last week’s Council elections we showed clearly the UKIP won directly down the HS2 line starting with Great Missenden. Tory vote share fell from 65% 4 yrs ago to 37% yesterday. Aylesbury constituency now has UKIP breathing down Tory necks in terms of share of vote ie 32% to 29% - HS2 effect.”
