HS2AA believe this Government funded report is a complete fabrication.

This morning the Government has tried again to reset the agenda on HS2, with the publication of a report by Network Rail which states improving existing lines would take 14 years and be hugely disruptive.
HS2AA believe this Government funded report is a complete fabrication.
The main alternative to HS2 involves longer trains and reduced first class capacity to provide more standard class seats. No work is required at Euston to deliver the necessary capacity increase. Work is only required at three locations on the West Coast Main Line, and this is comparable to the work being carried out on the route at present.
The report doesn’t mention

that HS2 Ltd’s own plans will permanently reduce the capacity at Euston, with the number of platforms reduced from 18 to 13 and the number of approach tracks cut from six to four. So WCML passengers face a double whammy of a permanent reduction in peak capacity from 2016 and massive disruption in Euston station during construction.
HS2 Ltd’s own plans indicate Euston (West Coast Main Line/London Underground), Camden (London Overground), Old Oak Common (Great Western), Streethay (West Coast Main Line), Crewe (West Coast Main Line), Manchester Piccadilly (West Coast Main Line), Church Fenton (East Coast Main Line), Meadowhall (Midland Main Line), Golborne (West Coast Main Line), Carstairs (West Coast Main Line), and Preston (West Coast Main Line) will all be disrupted during the construction of HS2.
Hilary Wharf, Director HS2AA said ”It would seem that the Government is suggesting that with HS2 they will not have to implement the planned upgrades to the East Coast Mainline and Midlands Main Line. This will leave all passengers that do not take the direct HS2 route much worse off. We assume this is how they will make some of the £7.7 billion of savings that HS2 business case requires.”
