Local MP urges government to do more
A Tory MP has urged the Transport Secretary to give more help to those with homes along the HS2 rail route.
Andrea Leadsom, who represents Northamptonshire South, says some people have been trying unsuccessfully to sell homes she says have been blighted because they're on the rail route.
Andrea Leadsom told the House of Commons the government had promised a fair property and blight deal for houses along the High Speed 2 rail route but in her constituency many people couldn't sell their homes.
She said some had been trying for two years and they also didn't have any access to compensation. What could the Transport Secretary say that would reassure people and would she consider a property bond that she said would ensure the property market would work normally.
The Transport Secretary, Justine Greening, said she recognised the impact HS2 was having and the government was due to consult on a package of measures to help
She said she was committed to making the package fair.
